Play Kitchen in the Maple Room

Dramatic play in the classroom is important because it promotes real-life scenarios for children to act out. The kitchen is an area that allows new creative learning experiences to occur. The children’s gross and fine motor skills are also enhanced during play as they pick up utensils to stir a bowl of soup or dress a baby doll.

Children will be gain a sense of belonging as they decide what roles they will play and the responsibilities each child will have, developing social competencies. The kitchen, will allow them to practice teamwork and communication skills to get tasks done. They will learn organization by deciding how and where each equipment will be placed. While role-playing, children are directing stories as a group, practising storytelling and imagining various scenarios. The possibilities for play are endless.
