How Many Toys Does a Child Need? By Christina

Do you feel that toys are taking over your home? It may be for the health of your family and the development of your child that you reduce the number of toys you have.
Studies show that children with fewer toys display:

  • Creativity
  • Taking care of toys (because there may not be a replacement)
  • Interest in natural materials and time outdoors
  • Interest in reading and painting
  • Resourcefulness (using one toy for multiple purposes)
  • Focus (fewer distractions equals longer playtime)

Whether you choose to follow the 20 Toy Rule or donate any toy your child is not playing with, fewer toys could enhance your child’s playtime and reduce clutter!
We have noticed at Mongio, that when we have fewer toys out at once the children stay more engaged and have less of a tendency to “dump and run” as well. If you are feeling unsure, you can always try reducing the number of toys slowly and see how you and your child adapt to this change.
