Children start to show they are ready for potty training between ages 18 months to 24 months. How can we detect their signals? Normally, if your child shows his/her interest to the toilet, and he/she is willing to sit down on the potty, it means he/she is ready for potty training. However, every child is different. We respect children’s choices and follow their lead.
Here are some tips for potty training: Firstly, we can make the potty time more fun. Try to let children read some books or play their favourite toys during potty time to make them feel more relaxed and enjoyable. It can help them connect positive feelings with the feeling of sitting on the potty. Encouragement is also a really important factor in potty training time. If your child is willing to sit on the potty for a while, please offer them a gentle praise. If accidents happen, or if the child is not comfortable, please don’t be upset or mad; this too is a normal part of the process. In daycare, if children often ask to go sit in the potty with friends, and that can be very motivating. It helps them build up their confidence to sit on the potty and feel more comfortable to control their body.
